PURPOSE: To provide a concise rotary shaft machining method for producing a surface which has a groove having sufficient lubricating oil holding function and wear resistance in a shaft itself, and does not injure the side of a bearing metal.
CONSTITUTION: After the surface of a rotary shaft is positively rough-ground into a rough face exceeding a fixed surface roughness, the rotary shaft is only roll-burnished. When roughgrinding ends, a difference between a crest and a bottom, namely sufficient unevenness, is formed on the surface of the rotary shaft by positively roughening the surface. The sharp projecting part of the crest is crushed by roll-burnishing, and the surface is thereby smoothed, but since the bottom groove having sufficient lubricating oil holding function remains, and the surface is simultaneously sufficiently work-hardened, the shaft itself has wear resistance, and the surface not to injure the side of a bearing metal is obtained, and induction hardening can be disused.
