PURPOSE: To perform automatic tool setting by making a work pallet and a tool pallet into a longitudinal pair, moving them between a two-plane type pallet exchanging device and a machine tool, and performing the movement of a main spindle and the switching of a chuck in linkage.
CONSTITUTION: At a set-up station 5, a work to be machined is set at a work pallet, and a specific tool is set at a tool pallet. The set pallets 4 are pooled once at a pool station 6, or without being pooled, the work pallet and the tool pallet form a longitudinal pair and sent into a two-plane parallel placing type pallet exchanging device 3 by an unmanned carrier 7. The work pallet is then sent from one side, a position A, to a position B, and after specified machining being performed by the automatic exchange of tools in a tool magazine 1a, stands by in a position D. The tool pallet is then sent from the position A to the position B, and a main spindle 2 is moved by X-Z, so that the specific tool is gripped by the switching of a chuck, and the work pallet is sent into a position C, thus performing machining with the specific tool.
