Title:
MACROMOLECULE FILTER MATERIAL MADE FROM SHELL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3820417
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that suspended solids and bacteria cannot be completely washed away from a filter member of a conventional sand type strainer even if backwashing is carried out each time, which shortly leads to the sludge caking of the entire filter material, and surely causes the blocking of the filter member and the deterioration of the filtering capacity, and also provides good conditions for the growth and reproduction of Legionella bacteria, Escherichia coli bacteria, and general bacteria, and that the filter material not only has to be periodically changed because of increased consumption of water for the backwashing, but a large quantity of the backwashing water unnecessarily increases fuel costs of a heating boiler for makeup water.
SOLUTION: The utilization of a macromolecule filter member made from shells containing fired shell powders of scallops and hen clams or the like in a filter tower provides an antibacterial effect and prevents the accumulation of the bacteria such as Legionella bacteria. As an air backwashing system for the filter member can be adopted by carrying out the specific gravity adjustment, the separation efficiency of a trapped substance can be improved and the inside of the filter tower after the backwashing can be kept sanitated so that the filter member is not required to be changed. And the air backwashing system can considerably reduce the water consumption for the backwashing and consequently the fuel costs for the makeup water.
