Abstract:

To provide a magnesia spinel refractory which has a coefficient of thermal expansion nearly equal to that of YSZ, a low air permeability, and excellent mechanical strength, and which is almost free from the formation of cracks and suitable for supporting members used in an SOFC using the YSZ as a solid electrolyte; and to provide a method for manufacturing the same.

The magnesia spinel refractory contains, by mass, 35-74% MgO component, 25-60% Al2O3 component, and 1-10% CaO component and is characterized in that the total content of MgO and Al2O3 components is ≥85 mass %, and it does not substantially contain SiO2 component.
