To provide a magnesium alloy extruded member superior in compression characteristics and its manufacturing method.
The magnesium alloy extruded member is formed by extruding a magnesium alloy. In the magnesium alloy extruded member, the (0001) planes are oriented at random, the average value of Schmid factors showing the inclination of crystal orientation of crystal grains is 0.2 or more and the existence ratio of crystal grains of which the values of the Schmid factors are 0-0.2 is 55% or smaller; the ratio of compression strength/tensile strength is 0.7-1.2. The magnesium alloy is a Mg-Al-Zn-based alloy having a composition comprising 3-10 mass% of Al, 0.1-1.5 mass% of Zn, 1 mass% of total impurities, and the balance being Mg. In the manufacturing method of the magnesium alloy extruded member, the magnesium alloy is extruded at a temperature of 150-400C and the crystal orientation of crystal grains is controlled.
