Abstract:
The present invention provides: an Mg-based metal member which has excellent designability and corrosion resistance; a method for producing this Mg-based metal member; and a decorative article which uses this Mg-based metal member. According to one embodiment of the present invention, an Mg-based metal member is provided with a base material that is composed of Mg or an Mg alloy and an oxide layer that covers the surface of the base material; and the oxide layer contains at least magnesium (Mg), scandium (Sc) and oxygen (O). This Mg-based metal member is obtained by subjecting an Mg alloy, which contains magnesium as a main component, while containing scandium in an amount of 0.1 at% or more but less than 50 at%, to thermal oxidation or anodic oxidation.
