To provide an electrode material useful as a negative electrode for a magnesium cell, and a cell with an electrode using the electrode material as a negative electrode.
The present invention relates to an electrode material and a method of manufacturing the electrode material. The electrode material has a porous magnesium alloy surface comprised of network-shaped eutectic crystals remained in a grain boundary from a surface to a predetermined depth while utilizing selective corrosion reaction of an initial crystal such as a casting material containing Mg initial crystal and eutectic crystals. The cell is comprised of a housing defining an electrode using the electrode material as a negative electrode, and accommodating a positive electrode provided on the negative electrode while facing each other through an electrolyte and a separator.
