Title:
MAGNESIUM OXIDE COMPOSITE CERAMICS AND ITS PRODUCTION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3225873
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain MgO composite ceramics having a special structure, high performance and high functional property.
SOLUTION: A mixture of MgO with La nitrate or carbonate is vacuum-dried by heating, mixed under drying, compacted and sintered at ≥1,400°C to obtain the objective MgO composite ceramics contg. 1-20vol.% La particles of ≤1.0μm particle diameter dispersed in the crystal grains and grain boundaries of the MgO matrix having crystal grains of 0.5-100μm grain diameter. Since crystal grains as the min. constituent units of MgO ceramics are made composite, physical properties of the ceramics are improved and mechanical characteristics of the ceramics, e.g. the fracture toughness, thermal shock resistance and bending strength are remarkably improved. This MgO composite ceramics has high level of characteristics and is useful as various structural ceramic materials or functional ceramic materials.
