To provide a magnetic bearing device which can prevent deterioration of sensor sensitivity, decrease in magnetic force for floatation and a reduction of a magnetic rotational force of a motor stator, and to miniaturize such components as a sensor, an electromagnet and a motor of the magnetic bearing, irrespective of the disposition of a can of nonmagnetic material between a stator and a rotor.

In the magnetic bearing device, where the can 13 of nonmagnetic material is disposed between the rotor 19 and stator and the rotor 19 is supported by floatation with an aid of a magnetic force of the electromagnet arranged on the stator side, a yoke 11 of the electromagnet 10 is penetrated through the can 13, or a member of a magnetic material 17 is embedded in the area facing to the yoke 11 of the electromagnet 10 corresponding to the can 13, and then the yoke 11 is placed opposite to face in a noncontact manner with an electromagnetic target 20 of the rotor 19, directly or via the member of magnetic material 17.
