To provide a magnetic bearing to improve a radial magnetic bearing by conventional arts and extremely reduce the incurring of a bearing loss.
Three or more U-shaped electromagnetic steel sheet laminates 10 are arranged around the peripheral direction of a rotary shaft 1 and fixed at a housing 100. Coils 31 and 32 for excitation are wound around the electromagnetic steel sheet laminate 10, permanent magnets 20 and 21 are arranged at a partial section and a rotor core 2 of a peripheral laminate of an I-type electromagnetic steel sheet is arranged on a rotary shaft 1 with the rotor core positioned facing the magnetic surface of the electromagnetic steel sheet laminate 10. The coils 31 and 32 for excitation is charged with a control current by a signal from a position sensor 5 to detect the radial position of the rotary shaft 1 and the position of the rotary shaft 1 is controlled. Therefore, the control of the rotary shaft 1 is achieved only by charging the coils 31 and 32 for excitation with a control current according to necessity and this constitution extremely reduces energy consumption.
