To provide a magnetic card processing apparatus in which checking and cleaning of a contact plane of a magnetic head can be performed easily.

The apparatus is provided with the magnetic head 22 performing reading/writing of magnetic data by contacting a magnetic recording medium 8 of a card type, an opposing member (pad roller 26 or second magnetic head) provided opposing to the magnetic head and contacting the magnetic recording medium 8 to the magnetic head 22, and a holding member 40 holding the opposing member, fixing the opposing member at a use position, while moving the opposing member to an evacuation position, and exposing the contact plane of the magnetic head 22.
