To obtain a magnetic coating excellent in dispersibility therein, even when fine magnetic powder having a high magnetic force is used, to obtain a magnetic recording medium excellent in magnetic characteristics, electromagnetic conversion characteristics and abrasion resistance by using the magnetic coating, and further to provide a method for producing the same.
This magnetic coating is produced by dispersing magnetic powder in a binder resin. Therein, the magnetic coating contains the magnetic powder, the binder resin and an alkoxydisilane [R1aR2O3-aSiSiR3m(OR4)3-m] [R1-R4 are each at least one of a 1-6C linear or branched alkyl and an alkenyl; (n) and (m) are each an integer of 0-3, but (n) and (m) are simultaneously not 3]. This magnetic recording medium is obtained by irradiating the magnetic coating with light, coating a nonmagnetic substrate with the irradiated coating and subsequently drying the coated coating.
