PURPOSE: To improve a distortion characteristic by adding a specified signal fS other than a signal fB to the signal fB having a highest frequency among signals so that it becomes an opposite phase, limiting its vibration and eliminating a signal component fS from this output signal.

CONSTITUTION: A color signal Vc is inputted from a terminal 3, the signal Vc is made-K times by an inverse amplifier 5 and sent to an adder 7 and the V signal Vy and the outputted signal of the amplifier 5 are added by the adder 7. Thus, the Y and color signals are superimposed in opposite phases. The vibration of the outputted signal of the adder 7 is restrained by a non-linear processing section 9, a signal S1 is outputted, a color signal is eliminated from the signal S1 by a color component elimination section 11, a signal S2 outputted and the signal S2 is adjusted to a level suitable for recording by a level adjusting section 13. The outputted signal Vy' of the adjusting section 13 is amplified by a recording amplifier 5 and the color signal is amplified by a recording amplifier 17. A recording is made on a magnetic tape 21 by a magnetic head 19 based on a composite signal S3 between the amplifiers 15 and 17. Thus, the level variation of a low frequency signal is improved.
