PURPOSE: To stable perform recoring/reproducing without giving damages to a tape even when tape tension is low by inclining an input side guide post.
CONSTITUTION: When an average pulling stress in a tape width direction is Tm and a pulling stress on a magnetic tape abutting position is TL, the stress distribution of a tape width direction at a drum 1 entrance is set atTL/Tm ≥1.2. Specifically, an entrance side guide post 7 is set inclined in a direction along the center direction of a tape winding angle so that no problem is generated even when a tape is travelled over 20 minutes. Thus, the travelling route of a tape lower end is slightly longer than that of the upper end, a pulling stress on the tape lower end is bigger as indicated by a vector 12 in the drawing and the stress distribution of the tape width direction on the drum entrance is set as described above. Therefore, changes in the thickness of an air film are made small from the drum entrance to the exit and a stable abutting between the magnetic head 3 and a tape 6 is obtained.
