To provide a magnetic encoder not generating cracks on a magnet even under a severe use condition such as a sudden temperature change, and having superior water resistance, a high magnetic characteristic, and high reliability enabling highly-accurate rotational frequency detection, and a rolling bearing unit including the magnetic encoder, and having high performance and high reliability.
The magnetic encoder is formed by integrally bonding a slinger and the magnet formed into an annular shape of magnetic materials including magnetic material powder and a binder including a low water absorbing polyamide resin whose water absorption is ≤0.7 mass% when being left in the water for 24 hours at 23°C, a shock-resistance improving agent, and an amine-based antioxidant selected from diphenylamine-based compounds and p-phenylenediamine-based compounds. This rolling bearing unit includes a fixed wheel, a rotary wheel and a plurality of rolling bodies, and is formed by fixing the magnetic encoder to the rotary wheel.
