To provide a magnetic field sensor that can be miniaturized and made lightweight, can be manufactured at low costs, has a wide dynamic range, can also measure a DC current, and is capable of further improved current measurement, and a current detector using the magnetic field sensor.
A magnetic field sensor 11 that is made of a magnetostriction element and is applied to current measurement at a substation or a transmission line is obtained by combining a magnetostriction element 13 and a piezoelectric element 14, causes the piezoelectric element 14 to be distorted due to the extension of the magnetostriction element 13, and performs conversion to a voltage. The magnetic field sensor 11 is formed by laminating the magnetostriction element and the piezoelectric element while a preloading is applied to the magnetostriction element, distorts the piezoelectric element due to the extension of the magnetostriction element, and performs conversion to a voltage. Or, it is formed by laminating the magnetostriction element and the piezoelectric element while a bias magnetic field is applied to the magnetostriction element, distorts the piezoelectric element due to the extension of the magnetostriction element, and performs conversion to a voltage.
