To provide a compact magnetic fluid device, such as a shock absorber, that uses a magnetic fluid as an operation medium.
The magnetic fluid device constituting a shock absorber 10 includes a case body 11 storing a magnetic fluid F, and a piston 14 to which a piston rod 22 protruding externally from an end of the case body 11 is connected. The piston 14 forms magnetic fluid chambers 15a and 15b in the case body 11. The piston 14 and a coil assembly 20 form a fluid guide slit 36, and the slit 36 includes slit parts 33a and 33b extending in the radial direction. A magnetic field guide sleeve 21b is embedded in the coil assembly 20. In magnetic field crossing parts 43a and 43b formed by an end face of the magnetic field guide sleeve 21a, a magnetic field crossing them is formed.
