PURPOSE: To independently and compactly adjust the relative height of a head chip by providing a thin wall part whose thickness is thinned so as to be orthogonal to the projecting direction of a holding piece, on a root part of the holding piece.

CONSTITUTION: In a body part of a head chip holding member 9, a groove 10 is provided on a root part of two holding pieces 9A, 9B projected so as to be adjacent to each other, so that both end parts of the body part of the head chip holding member 9 are installed to a rotary cylinder 6. By installing the body part of the head chip holding member 9 to the rotary cylinder 6, and pressing the points of length of about 1/2 of projected length of two holding pieces, respectively, with an adjusting screw 7 provided on its rotary cylinder 6, the relative height of a head chip 2 provided on the holding pieces 9A, 9B can be adjusted independently. In such a way, a magnetic head device which can adjust easily height of the head chip can be realized by a compact shape.
