PURPOSE: To achieve a shortening of working time and a longer life of a grind ing stone by a method wherein a track part is made up of a plane facing a recording medium and a track side so shaped as to have a part of two conical sides prescribing the width of the track and the track part is ground roughly using a grinding wheel corresponding to these parts.

CONSTITUTION: A monolithic slider 1 is built as usual. In this method, a track 5 composing the slider is made up of a plane 11 facing a hard disc and track sides 12-1 and 12-2 which have a part of two conical sides prescribing the track 5 on the plane 11. In other words, the width (d) of the track 5 comprising a magnetic gap of a center rail 6 is prescribed by a distance on the plane of the rail 6 between the sides 12-1 and 12-2 while the depth of the track 5 is prescribed by the apex angles of the sides 12-1 and 12-2. This constitution enables the rough grinding of the track part simply by rotating a conical grinding wheel.
