PURPOSE: To obviate the generation of projections and cracks in a magnetic memory body and to improve the reliability and weatherability thereof by coating a nonmagnetic metallic layer contg. at least vanadium on an underlying body and coating a thin magnetic film medium thereon to constitute the magnetic memory body.
CONSTITUTION: The underlying body 1 is a sheet consisting of an aluminum alloy or anodized alumite, nickel, aluminum alloy coated with a phosphorus plating film, etc., or ceramics, or metals such as stainless steel or glass sheet, plastic film, etc., and the nonmagnetic metallic layer 2 contg. at least vanadium is coated on such underlying body 1 by, for example, a high-frequency magnetron sputtering method. The thin magnetic film medium 3 is then coated on the nonmagnetic metallic layer 2 by, for example, a high-frequency magnetron sputtering method. A protective film is further coated thereon and a lubricating agent may be coated on the protective film. The magnetic recording medium formed in such a manner has high coercive force, is entirely free from projections and cracks and has the high reliability and substantial weatherability.
