To provide a magnetic memory that can realize high-density recording, and to provide a method of manufacturing the memory and a magnetic recording and reproducing device and a memory cell both of which use the memory.
The magnetic memory is composed of a single-crystal Cu substrate 11 using a (001)-face inclined in the direction of crystal orientation of [110] by 1°-3° as a main surface, a nitrogen patch 12 constituted by separately arranging square nitrogen patch elements on the main surface, and magnetic dots 13 formed on the intersecting points of Cu lines separating the patch elements from each other. The memory holds information based on an internal state formed by the combination of the directions of magnetization of the magnetic dots 13.
