To obtain a medium having stable sliding durability characteristics for a long time and weather resistance by forming a thin film comprising a fluorine-contg. org. material lubricant and one or more kinds of compd. having electron affinity on a protective film of a magnetic recording medium.
The fluorine-contg. org. material lubricant is a perfluoropolyether polymer lubricant having the main chain structure comprising three elements of carbon, fluorine and oxygen. The compds. having electron affinity are fluorine molecules, chlorine molecules or bromine molecules, and for example, tin tetrachloride, aluminum chloride and boron trifluoride can be used. It is preferable that the whole or part of electron states of these compds. having electron affinity are anion radical. The lubricant and the compd. having electron affinity are mixed by 1:1 to 100:1 molar ratio. The film is formed to 0.1nm to 100nm thickness. By forming the lubricant layer, decomposition of the lubricant induced by exoelectrons produced by sliding with a head can be suppressed, which prevents decrease in the lubricating function.
