Title:
MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM HAVING INCREASED HIGH DENSITY BROADBAND SIGNAL-TO-NOISE RATIO
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2004303408
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide a magnetic recording medium wherein a signal-to-noise ratio is increased in a high-density broadband.

A dual-layer magnetic recording medium includes a nonmagnetic substrate having a front surface and a back surface, a lower support layer formed over the front surface, and a magnetic upper recording layer formed over the lower layer. The magnetic layer contains magnetic metallic pigment particles having at least a saturation coercivity of about 2,000 oersted (Oe), and a binder system for a pigment. The magnetic recording medium exhibits a square ratio greater than 0.84, a front coating Wyko Ra (average roughness) value of less than 5.5 nm, preferably, less than 4.0 nm, and has a BBSNR of greater than 11dB at 151kfci.
