Abstract:
PURPOSE: To attain high density recording and reduced noise for a magnetic recording medium for in-plane recording using a nonmagnetic substrate of ceramics, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A magnetic recording film 13 contg. Co as an essential constituent element is formed on a nonmagnetic glass substrate 11 through a nonmagnetic underlying film 12 of Cr, etc., and a nonmagnetic coating film 14 is further formed to obtain the objective magnetic recording medium. The diffraction intensity of the (0002) face of the Co among its crystal orientation faces measured by the X-ray diffraction of the magnetic recording film is 1.5-8 times the total diffraction intensity of the other faces.
