PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic recording medium with improved electromagnetic conversion characteristics by providing a magnetic layer on a nonmagnetic supporting body and incorporating an org. radical compd. into the magnetic layer or into the surface of the magnetic layer.
CONSTITUTION: A magnetic layer is provided on a nonmagnetic supporting body, and an org. radical compd. is incorporated into the magnetic layer or into the surface of the magnetic layer. More preferably, a magnetic layer comprising a ferromagnetic powder dispersed in a binder is formed on the nonmagnetic supporting body, and an org. radical compd. is incorporated into this ferromagnetic powder. The spin of unpaired electron in the org. radical generates magnetic moment. Thereby, when the radical compd. is fixed near the ferromagnetic powder particles, the magnetic moment of the radial coincides with the axis of easy magnetization, and thereby, Bm (saturation magnetic flux density) can be increased.
