To improve the relative traveling reliability with a magnetic head and to reduce a manufacturing cost by forming the projections of crosslinked parts of a magnetic recording medium having the projections on its surface of a crosslinkable inorg. compd. or crosslinkable org. compd.
A glass substrate 1 subjected to mirror finish polishing is washed and the projections 2 consisting of the crosslinked parts of the crosslinkable org. compd. are formed via a tight adhesive layer 7 on this surface. A Cr film as a ground surface layer 3 and a CoCrTa alloy film as a protective layer 5 are successively formed by a sputtering method on the substrate formed with the projections 2. Further, a lubricating layer 6 is formed, by which the magnetic recording medium is completed. A compd. contg. at least one kind among polyamide acid, acrylic acid and methacrylic acid is used as the crosslinkable org. compd. used for forming the projections. As a result, the high head traveling reliability is improved without requiring intricate stages.
