PURPOSE: To provide a magnetic recording medium and the production method decreased in surface roughness of a magnetic layer and improved in electromagnetic conversion property.
CONSTITUTION: When each of flow curve of a magnetic coating material for upper layer forming an upper magnetic layer and a magnetic coating material for under layer, which is adjacent to the upper layer and forms an under magnetic layer, is fitted to a following formula, plural of the magnetic layer are laminated by applying with over layering the magnetic coating material for under layer and for upper layer which are regulated so that difference of exponent n is ≤0.1 and difference of coefficient of viscosity K is <1.0. The formula; σ=Kγn, where σ is shearing stress (Pa), γ is shear rate (S-1). The magnetic recording medium is produced by applying the magnetic coating material for upper layer on the magnetic coating material for under layer.
