PURPOSE: To improve friction performance and to improve CSS durability by having a lubricating film formed of a specified soln. on the magnetic layer of a continuous thin film type formed on a rigid substrate.
CONSTITUTION: This magnetic recording medium 1 has the magnetic layer 3 of the continuous thin film type formed on the rigid substrate 2. The magnetic layer 3 consists of Γ-Fe2O3. The lubricating film 4 is formed on the magnetic layer 3. The lubricating film 4 is formed of a soln. prepd. by dissolving polyether having perfluoroalkylene and/or its deriv. into C2F5CH2OH. Recording and reproducing are executed by rotating the magnetic recording medium 1 and floating a magnetic head at ≤0.2μm floating quantity on this magnetic recording medium 1. The magnetic recording medium which is improved in contact start- stop(CSS) durability and has the high recording density is obtd. in such a manner.
