PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic recording medium having superior wear resistance, durability, etc. as well as superior video S/N and video sensitivity by forming a resin layer contg. TiO and a lubricant on one side of a support opposite to a magnetic layer.

CONSTITUTION: A layer contg. TiO powder havin 0.01W1μm average grain size by about 50W200wt% of the amount of a binder resin and a lubricant such as liq. paraffin, microwax or polyethylene wax or a fatty acid lubricant, fatty acid amide lubricant or silicone lubricant by about 5W30wt% of the amount of the binder resin is formed on one side of a support opposite to a magntic layer. Thus, a tape having superior electromagnetic conversion characteristics, antistatic properties and durability is obtd. The tape causes hardly an output change, drop-out, etc. and is especially suitable for use as a videotape.
