PURPOSE: To uniformize reproduced output by forming a nonmagnetic intermediate layer under a magnetic material layer to be used for recording therebetween and forming an underlying magnetic material layer which is not used for recording.
CONSTITUTION: The underlying magnetic material layer 2 is coated on a substrate 1 and the nonmagnetic intermediate layer 3 is coated on this nonmagnetic intermediate layer 2. The 2nd magnetic material layer 4 is coated on this nonmagnetic intermediate layer 3. The magnetic fluxes generated from the magnetized magnetic material layer for intra-surface recording are more largely affected by the underlying magnetic material layer 2 in the region where recording wavelengths are longer. The quantity of the magnetic fluxes flowing to the underlying magnetic material layer 2, is therefore, larger and the quantity of the inflow to a playback head is smaller to decrease the reproduced output in the regions where the recording wavelengths are longer. The reproduced output is consequently smaller in the region where the recording wavelengths are longer. The difference in the reproduced outputs between the recording tracks on the outside circumferential side and the recording tracks on the inside circumferential side is thereby decreased. The difference in the reproduced output between the low-frequency region and the high-frequency region is decreased as well.
