To provide a magnetic recording reproducing device that ensures satisfactory recording/reproducing characteristics and has a magnetic recording medium of high recording density with fine track elements and track separation elements, and to provide a magnetic recording medium for use in the magnetic recording reproducing device and a recording method therefor.
The magnetic recording reproducing device is configured to execute offset recording in which magnetic signals are recorded on a target track element by controlling the position of a recording head 14A in the width direction Dw, so that the center Chw of the recording head 14A in the width direction Dw is offset in a direction apart from a track element which is paired with the target track element, with respect to the center of the target recording track element, in one of the following processes to be executed later: in a first track element recording process, the magnetic signals are recorded on a first track element 26A out of the first and second track elements 26A and 26B disposed between two track separation elements 22;and in a second track element recording step, the magnetic signals are recorded on the second track element 26B.
