PURPOSE: To obtain a reproduced picture with high quality by separating a video signal into a subcarrier component and a chrominance signal component through addition and subtraction processing and demodulating the chrominance signal component by a phase reference signal produced through the phase shift of ±π/4 each of the separated subcarrier.
CONSTITUTION: A reproducing signal extracted from a magnetic recording medium by a magnetic head 16 is inputted to a delay circuit 1, an adder circuit 2 and a subtraction circuit 3 via an amplifier 17 and a low pass filter 18. A carrier and a signal are outputted alternately from the circuits 2 and 3, a switching circuit 20 switches the signal and the carrier so that the signal is produced always from a switching section 20a and the carrier is produced always from a switching section 20b. An output signal of the switching section 20a is inputted to detectors 7, 8, the output carrier of the switching section 20b is phase-shifted by a +π/4 phase shifter 4 and a -π/4 phase shifter 5 and the detection is conducted by both phase reference signals (sin) and (-cos). As a result, chrominance signals R-Y and B-Y are demodulated.
