Abstract:
PURPOSE:To reduce the occurrence of a fatal error by providing a counter means which plurally counts an error position detection signal in reproducing head units, a means which integrates the counted value for a prescribed time and arithmetically operates it to an error ratio and a means which displays the error ratio in reproducing head units. CONSTITUTION:The errors occurring in the respective rotating type reproducing heads 3 and 4 and equalization circuits 8 and 9 are counted, arithmetically operated to the error ratio and displayed. Simultaneously, control data is produced in order to control the waveform equalizing constant of a reproducing head signal whose error number is minimum by comparing and arithmetically operating a memory value and the error ratio. Then, the characteristic difference between the rotating type reproducing heads 3 and 4 and the secular change thereof are optimized by the waveform equalization circuits 8 and 9. Besides, the error number at the time of reproducing can be always evaluated and the fatal error such as the contamination of the rotating type reproducing heads 3 and 4 or the contamination of a tape traveling system is detected before it occurs. Thus, the occurrence of the fatal error is reduced when a magnetic tape is reproduced.
