Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic sensor element capable of improving the reproduction sensitivity even at the narrow track operation and also suppressing the side reading, in an exchange bias method, and to provide a manufacturing method thereof.
SOLUTION: End parts 35a of a back fill gap layer 35 are arranged on backward areas of end parts C on both sides of an element of a free magnetic layer 28, and a 2nd anti-ferromagnetic layer 33 is formed from the opposite surface side with a recording medium over to the end part 35a of the back fill gap layer 35. By this arrangement, a bias magnetic field in the magnetic layer is weakened in the backward area of the free magnetic layer 28 as compared with the forward area, and the reproduction sensitivity with respect to the external magnetic field in an element center part of the free magnetic layer becomes improved as compared with the conventional practice without lowering the exchanging stiffness constant, and also the magnetic sensor element capable of suppressing the side reading is manufactured.
