To provide a magnetic tape separator which can delete data in a used magnetic tape cassette without dismantling the cassette, and separate a tape and the cassette in a short time.
This magnetic tape separator comprises a cassette holder 48 for holding the cassette, a winding part 56 for pulling out the magnetic tape from the cassette held by the cassette holder 48 and winding the magnetic tape, a deleting part 52 for deleting records in the magnetic tape pulled out by the winding part 56, a take-up reel vertical movement mechanism for vertically moving the winding part 56 to a position holding the magnetic tape in the cassette and a position winding up the magnetic tape 206 pulled out from the cassette 201, and a holder longitudinal movement mechanism for longitudinally moving the cassette holder to a position receiving the magnetic tape before treatment, a position discharging the separated cassette, and a position pulling out and winding up the magnetic tape from the cassette.
