PURPOSE: To reduce the error rate by using a copied and mother magnetic recording media respectively having prescribed characteristics and superimposing the recording media upon another so that the inclined directions of the magnetic domain columns of their magnetic layers can become opposite to each other, and then, transferring signals by impressing an external bias magnetic field from a prescribed direction.
CONSTITUTION: A magnetic layer composed of a magnetic metallic thin film is formed on a nonmagnetic substrate. A copied magnetic recording medium C in which the angle θCE from the intrasurface direction of the axis of easy magnetization of its magnetic layer is set at 70°+20° and a mother magnetic recording medium M in which the angle θME from the intrasurface direction of the axis of easy magnetization is set at 20°+15° are used. While the media C and M are superimposed upon another so that the inclined directions of the magnetic domain columns CLC and CLM of their magnetic layers can become opposite to each other, an external bias magnetic field HB is impressed from the direction which is 110°+15° from the intrasurface direction of the medium M. Under such condition, the recorded magnetization of the medium M is transferred to the medium C. Therefore, the error rate can be reduced, since a sufficient reproduced output can be obtained even when the shortest recording wavelength is about 0.5μm, and recording and reproduction can be performed for a long time.
