Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the title pigment having a high metallic luster and high hiding power and being useful as a stereo-optical effect pigment by using a thin-plate non-ferromagnetic metal base coated with a specified ferromagnetic layer.

CONSTITUTION: This pigment comprises a thin-plate, desirably about 1 to 200 μm in a mean maximum diameter, non-ferroelectric metallic base (e.g. Al pigment) coated with a ferroelectric layer comprising Fe, Co and/or Ni, optionally another layer comprising a metal oxide and/or an outer passivation layer containing a phosphate, a chromate and/or a vanadate [e.g. iron (III) oxide layer].
