To achieve a magnetization method and a magnetization apparatus for enhancing a magnetization strength on a side face of a magnetic member 18 for composing an encoder intermediary body 19, and improving the pitch accuracy of magnetic poles (N and S poles) formed on the side face by a magnetization.
End faces of a pair of magnetization heads 16a, 16b adjacently face the side face of the magnetic member 18. In this state, opposed positions of the end faces of the magnetization heads 16a, 16b against the side face of the magnetization member 18 are intermittently moved by a rotational angle pitch P in the circumferential direction in order of (A)(B)(C). A magnetic flux is generated between the end faces of the magnetization heads 16a, 16b only while a movement is deactivated in order of (A)(B)(C), and an orientation of the magnetic flux is alternately inverted each time the movement is deactivated. The problem is overcome by magnetizing two poles on the side face at a time.
