PURPOSE: To provide a magneto-optical disk device without the collision between an air floating magnetic head and a magneto-optical disk, capable of recording a video signal even in a magnetic field modulation system and with high reliability.

CONSTITUTION: The high floating air floating magnetic head is adopted as a magnetic head, and a sensor 4 detecting a distance between the air floating magnetic head 33 and the magneto-optical disk 1 is attached to the magnetic head. Then, a loading actuator 9 loading the air floating magnetic head 33 on the magneto-optical disk 1 is driven according to the result of the output of the sensor 4. Further, this device is equipped with a load applying device so as to keep the distance between the air floating magnetic head 33 and the magneto-optical disk 1 to a fixed value.
