To improve heat generation control, recording stability, and reliability by controlling the magnitude of an applied magnetic field by making it correspond to mark length to be written, regarding a magneto-optical recording device and a magnetic field applying method.
This device comprises: a light source for generating a laser beam, a lens group for converging the laser beam emitted from the light source in an optical information recording medium; a light source control section for controlling timing of the laser beam emitted from the light source; a magnetic field generation section for generating the magnetic field near the irradiation position of the laser beam on the optical information recording medium; a magnetic field control section for controlling the magnitude of the magnetic field generated by the magnetic field generation section; and a writing section for supplying control information corresponding to a mark to be written in the optical information recording medium in the light source control section and the magnetic field control section. The magnetic field control section extracts information on the length of the mark to be written from the supplied control information, and controls the magnetic field generation section so as to generate the magnetic field of the magnitude corresponding to the mark length.
