Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a recording medium having excellent reliability by providing a magneto-optical recording layer consisting of a prescribed compsn. to the magneto-optical recording medium which executes recording/reproducing/erasing by projecting light to the amorphous magneto-optical recording layer in which the directions of magnetization are perpendicular to the plane of the film and takes two values of upward or downward.

CONSTITUTION: This magneto-optical recording medium executes the recording/ reproducing/erasing by projecting the light to the amorphous magneto-optical recording medium in which the directions of the magnetization are perpendicular to the plane of the film and take the two values of upward or downward. The magneto-optical recording layer 3 of such recording medium is formed of the alloy expressed by the formula I. In this formula I, x, y, z are specified the values expressed by the formula II, the formula II and the formula IV; further, LR is so determined as to consist of ≥1 kinds among Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, and Sm, HR of ≥1 kinds among Gd, Tb and Dy, A of ≥1 kinds among Fe, Co and Ni, and B of ≥1 kinds among Al, B, Ga, In are Tl. The magneto-optical medium which has excellent initial characteristics, has high reliability and is less severe in the restrictions of sputtering conditions is thereby obtd.
