To provide a CPP type magneto-resistive magnetic head capable of stably and sufficiently applying a longitudinal bias magnetic field to the magneto-resistive element without causing any leak current at both the end sides of a magneto-resistive element.
The magneto-resistive magnetic head has the magneto-resistive element, upper and lower gap members which are respectively in contact with upper and lower parts of the magneto-resistive element and made of a conductive material, upper and lower shielding members which are respectively in contact with the opposite sides of the magneto-resistive element of the upper and lower gap members and made of a conductive material and insulating bias applying layers for applying the longitudinal bias magnetic field to the magneto-resistive element disposed in the both left and right end part sides of the magneto-resistive element.
