PURPOSE: To support a book and the like in such an attitude that it is most easily viewed by constituting a bookrest of a book placing plate supporting the back and the lower edge of the book and the like and a supporting means supporting the book placing plate on a horizontal surface in such attitude that it is inclined backward.

CONSTITUTION: The book placing plate 10 is provided with a back plate part 12 supporting the back of the book and the like and a shelf part 14 supporting the lower edge of the book and the like. Then, when a first pivotal moving leg is placed on the horizontal surface such as a desk surface, the plate 10 is supported in such posture that it is inclined backward with respect to the horizontal surface. At this time, an inclined angle is set to one of four different inclined angles. Besides, a block-like thick part 46 is formed at the central part of the lower edge of the plate 10 and an arm member 59 projecting forward from the central part of the lower edge of the plate 10 is provided in a state where the bottom part thereof is inserted in a hole 48 formed at the thick part 46. Then, a magnifier 54 is fitted to the tip part of the arm member 50 by a sliding position adjustment means 52 in a state where it is supported at the central part of the lower edge.
