To provide a maleic anhydride/α-olefin copolymer having a low mol. wt. and a low viscosity and reduced in the temperature dependency of viscosity, and its manufacturing method.
The maleic anhydride/α-olefin copolymer is the one obtained by copolymerizing an α-olefin represented by formula (1): CH2=CR1-R2 and maleic anhydride using a free radical initiator and a chain transfer agent, and satisfies the undermentioned requirements (A) and (B). In formula (1) R1 is hydrogen or a 1-20C straight-chain or branched alkyl group and R2 is a 1-22C straight-chain or branched alkyl group. The requirement (A) is that the weight average mol. wt. (Mw) determined by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) is 500-4,000, and the requirement (B) is that the glass transition temperature (Tg) or the melting point (Tm) determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) is 20-100°C.
