PURPOSE: To obtain a reliable reverse running-preventive mechanism for a printer, by providing a reverse rotation-preventive means on a drive roller.
CONSTITUTION: A manual printer consists of a thermal head 1, a take-up means 8 for a thermal transfer ink ribbon 3, a detecting means 6 recognizing the travel distance of the thermal head 1, a drive roller 2 engaging with the take-up means 8 and the detecting means 6 while pressing down a printing surface 60, and a reverse rotation-preventive means for the drive roller 2. The reverse rotation-preventive means is loaded in the drive roller 2. As the reverse rotation- preventive means a one-way clutch 2c is used, and by this one way clutch 2c set in the drive roller 2 the drive roller 2 is made rotatable only in the direction of an arrow C relatively to a roller shaft 2b. In the one way clutch 2c, for example, rollers 2d are disposed between an outer wheel 2e and the roller shaft 2b with a spring action applied by the grooves of the cam surface of the outer wheel 2e. The rotation of the outer wheel 2e in the direction of the arrow C separates the rollers 2d from the cam surface of the outer wheel 2e, thus permitting the outer wheel 2e to rotate in the direction of the arrow C but preventing it from rotating reversely. Therefore, a case 50 and the thermal head 1 cannot also move reversely to the direction of an arrow B.
