To provide a method of securing a bicycle handlebar stem to the front wheel fork steerer tube in a manner that is both safe and convenient for the operator.
The connection between the handlebar stem 2 and the front fork steerer tube 110 can be on the interior or the exterior of the front fork steerer tube. With the interior connection, the steerer tube 110 can be elongated to extend above the top of the headset bearing where it is fitted with a collar 60 for clamping onto the internally mounted stem. The handlebar stem 2 and fork steerer tube 110 are fitted with corresponding octagonal or other cross sectional shape, or a safety tracking system. In the case of the bicycle having a handlebar stem clamped to the outside of the steerer tube 110, the handlebar stem has a safe lock and can rotate for storage, but has no height adjusting function.
