Abstract:
1. Process for the preparation of aliphatic cyclic carbonate, characterised in that urea or carbamates are heated with at least an equivalent amount of analiphatic alcohol of the formula see diagramm : EP0057825,P4,F3 wherein X and Y can be identical or different not only within one see diagramm : EP0057825,P4,F5 group but also for different see diagramm : EP0057825,P4,F6 groups and represent hydrogen or C1 -C4 -alkyl and n represents an integer from 3 to 18, in the presence of thallium or lead compounds, first at 140 to 190 degrees C, and then at 200 to 270 degrees C, until no more ammonia is split off and then the aliphatic cyclic carbonates are removed from the reaction mixture under pressures in the range of 0.001 to 50 mbar and at temperatures in the range of 150 to 300 degrees C.
