Process for the preparation of amine oxides of the general formula see diagramm : EP0037996,P7,F1 wherein R**1 is a naphthenoyl radical, R**2 is an alkylene radical having 2 to 5 carbon atoms, and R**3 and R**4 are identical or different and are a methyl or ethyl radical, characterised in that amines of the general formula R**1 NHR**2 NR**3 R**4 in the form of an aqueous, finely particulate dispersion are oxidised in the manner known per se with oxygen-releasing compounds at an elevated temperature.
