PURPOSE: To obtain a platinum-ruthenium catalyst excellent in a CO poisoning- resisting characteristic by sticking ruthenium as hydroxide on a platinum carrier catalyst and next performing heat treatment in an atmosphere of an inert gas to reduce ruthenium hydroxide into a metal and simultaneously forming an alloy of this hydroxide.
CONSTITUTION: When an aqueous solution of ruthenium chloride is made in full touch with a platinum carrier catalyst and next PH in a system is made on an alkaline side, ruthenium is precipitated as hydroxide on platinum particles. Further, a reducible atmosphere is produced by carbon black used as the carrier. Ruthenium hydroxide is reduced into a metal, and an alloy of this hydroxide to platinum is formed to obtain a platinum-ruthenium catalyst. Thus, the platinum-ruthenium catalyst, which has an excellent carbon monoxide poisoning- resisting characteristic and fine metallic particles and good dispersibility, can be obtained.
