A cast slab of austenitic stainless steel of ≤8 mm thickness, prepared by a continuous caster in which the surface of a mold moves synchronously with a cast slab, is softened and cold-rolled, and the resultant steel sheet is subjected, after final annealing, to tension leveling at 0.3-0.6% elongation percentage, or, the cast slab is subjected to light rolling at 8-20%, held at 1050-1150°C for 1-5 min to undergo process annealing, and then cold-rolled to final thickness, followed by final annealing.
